KC: Growing Independence
Children of Promise Asia has continued to host the annual “Yes I Can” contest to promote independence and self-reliance for people with disabilities. Through this contest, CP Asia also encourages young people with disabilities to refuse to conform to the stereotype that they are weak and unable to help themselves and others. The works of our “Yes I Can” contestants have continued to amaze and encourage us each year.
In our 2019 challenge, one of our winners was KC, an 11-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. His plan was to train himself to do a better job feeding himself, without making a big mess. He followed through with this plan with flying colors. Besides all the hard work he put into his training, we were also very impressed with how he shared his plan with us: KC used his feet to type on a tablet for 10 days!
